Marco Silva insisted Harry Wilson’s injury-time double to give Fulham a dramatic 2-1 victory over Brentford was a “reward” for his side who never gave up.
Fulham went into Monday night’s game at Craven Cottage without a win since September, but ended the evening in the top half of the Premier League after substitute Wilson’s late double canceled out a 24th-minute early goal from Vitaly Janelt from Brentford.
Silva believes Fulham have already dropped points in many of the games they have dominated this season and was delighted with his side’s victory as defeat loomed.
“We definitely deserved the three points, there’s no doubt about that,” he said.
“We were the best team on the field in most of our matches. The reality is we didn’t get points in a lot of those games. Tonight, it was more or less the same story. We didn’t give up, we tried and tried to attack. Well done to the players. We were rewarded with the last minute goals.
“Sometimes football takes away from you – but ultimately it will give you if you deserve it. The emotion was high at the end of the match. It was a great night for the fans. The main thing is to give them these kinds of moments.
“Tomorrow I’m going to see the [players] with a different smile on their face, and they deserve it.
Harry Wilson has not started a single Premier League game for Fulham this season, but was the winner in the hosts’ match at Craven Cottage.
Silva said of the Wales international: “I’ve had a few conversations with him. It’s been a tough season for him in terms of minutes. All players want to play more. Harry is a good example of this. He must be patient.
“When the opportunity presented itself, he took it. He had a great evening. A good 15 minutes behind him, he helped the team win.
“It’s not the first time against Brentford we’ve scored a late goal here at Craven Cottage. The last [few] the results against Brentford were not good for Fulham Football Club. It’s a great feeling [this time].”
